FAQ

When can I join the classes?

Our courses are conducted all year long in trimester interval: new courses begin every three months. The courses begin 4 times a year: in October, January, April and in July. It is also possible to form dedicated groups that begin courses at other dates. One trimester is 44 class hours. The classes are in the morning, afternoon and in the evening from Monday to Sunday. You can choose when you want to attend the classes. Polish Linguistic Institute works 12 months per year but we plan holidays for our students.

How and when can I verify my level of Polish?

Please, fulfill our online test and check Your mailbox to find out the results. You will get an e-mail with an invitation to a linguistic audit (chose time at Your convenience). After it is conducted - we will find a matching group for You.

Where can I find the class timetable for the upcoming trimester and choose the dates?

The class timetable for the upcoming trimester is available at the office of Polish Linguistic Institute during the recruitment. When we evaluate your level, we will be able to offer you the days and times of classes so you can choose the most suitable for you. The classes take place:
- three times a week in 90-minute blocks (2x45 min) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
- twice a week in 90-minute blocks (2x45min) on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays,
- once a week in a 3-hour block (4x45min) on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.
The recruitment process starts about three weeks before each trimester. We conduct the recruitment 4 times a year: in March, June, September and December.

Are there any Polish courses for beginners?

Of course, there are! If you don't speak Polish at all, you can join our beginner group, we have Slavic groups (at levels: A1.0/A1.1S for students who speak Slavic languages) and international groups (at level A1.0). If you want to start your adventure with Polish language, you don't have to do the test or have an interview with our language teacher, just choose the time of the classes that suits you and join us. Groups for the beginners start every month. Call us +48 517 459 418 or write an email  [email protected]  to check about current schedule.

How will I know what level of Polish I have?

Every school has their own placement guidelines. We pay a lot of attention to that because we know that correct placement guarantees success in language learning. It is important that everybody (apart from students who start at the beginner level) takes the placement test and talks to our teachers. We want the groups to include students at the same language level because this makes learning easier. If you are not a beginner and you are not sure what level of Polish language you have, visit us during the recruitment time or call us to write the placement test and arrange a meeting with a language teacher. Remember that the language audtion takes about 10 minutes so you can book it here . After the test we will be able to offer you a suitable level of the group and time of classes. Learn more about our placement system in order to find more information about the course you would like to attend.

What language is used during classes?

We teach Polish so all our classes are in Polish. During classes, our teachers speak only Polish. It may seem strange but this method really works. Our teachers use only the target language so the students understand more, learn to speak faster and feel more at ease when formulating sentences in Polish. You do not need to know any intermediary language to participate in our classes. Only in exceptional cases are some words translated into other languages.

Are there groups only for Slavs?

Yes, there are. At levels A1.0 to A2.1 we have groups for students who speak any Slavic language fluently. The course curriculum focuses on their specific needs and is based on the similarities between Polish and other Slavic languages. Moreover, such course is more intensive (one trimester covers the material of even two modules!).

Do you have any special groups only for students from Spain, China, the US, etc.?

No, we don't. Our students learn in multilingual groups so they can get to know various people and cultures from all over the world.

How many students are there in a group?

At Polish Linguistic Institute we resigned from the boring, routine method of teaching and we put more emphasis on modern and dynamic learning through communication. If you want to start speaking Polish, a group course will be the best choice. You will learn to listen to and understand others, exchange information, discuss interesting topics with the help and support of our teachers. The minimum number of students in a group is 5, however the average number is 10.

How long do I have to learn to be able to speak Polish fluently?

This depends on how you understand the meaning of language fluency and in what situations you want to use Polish. To be at level A1 requires 4 trimesters (2 for Slavic groups). At this level you will know about 1500 words and some basic grammar structures, you will be able to talk about things from everyday life as well as to communicate in everyday situations. You can find more about what you can learn at each of the levels in the "learning levels" tab.

I'd like to sign up for a course but I need a visa to come to Poland. Do you help with getting one?

Yes, we issue a confirmation of acceptance for the course that is needed to submit an application for a visa. All the necessary documents are issued after you sign a contract and pay for the course.

The condition to receive such certificate is the attendance to at least 80% of classes and a positive result at the final test. In order to receive such document, please contact the Director of Polish Linguistic Institute at the end of the trimester.

What exam can I study to at Polish Linguistic Institute?

We prepare our students to the state certificate examination in Polish as a foreign language at level B1, which is required to gain Polish citizenship. More on this subject.

How can I check if I make progress in language learning?

In each trimester there are at least two tests, which will allow both you and the teacher to assess your progress. Passing these tests and doing homework decides whether you can advance to the next level of learning Polish.

If I'm already attending a course, how can I secure a place in the same (or other) group for the next trimester?

If you decide to stay with us longer, it is necessary to confirm your willingness to continue learning one month before the end of the current course, so that we can book a place for you, in the same or another group, if you decide to change.
